An active member of the PeaceHealth community, Bert served on the hospital foundation board, numerous working committees and supported many PeaceHealth projects and initiatives throughout his life. Most notable however, was his love and passion for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) program, directly supporting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and pediatric programs and services at Sacred Heart. Bert has been a staunch ambassador for the CMN program at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center since its inception in 1987. He and his entire family have volunteered for countless CMN events, from the early days of answering phones for the CMN Telethon phone bank to hosting fundraising events for CMN at his West Lane Thriftway store.
During his tenure on the CMN Leadership Committee, he co-founded the CMN Golf Classic in 1995. This golf tournament meant the world to him. Under his leadership, the tournament has flourished into an important community tradition, raising over $2 million over these past 29 years. So many of the teams we have joining us today were here with us since the beginning because of Bert’s power of persuasion. Bert inspired and encouraged his family and friends to join him in supporting the causes closest to him. He was a hard man to say “no” to because you knew his own investment was genuine and extensive.
Bert could always be counted on to share a joke and a smile with every golfer as he cruised around the course in his cart, always ensuring everything was running smoothly. His pride in this event was felt by all who knew him, and if these fairways and greens could talk, they would share countless stories about Bert’s hard work and dedication to making this an exceptional tournament. We have so much gratitude for Bert and his family for establishing this beloved opportunity to raise funds for children in our community.
Since 2022, this golf tournament that was his pride, joy and legacy has been known as the Bert Babb Memorial CMN Golf Classic.
Bert’s presence was larger than life, and his influence and charisma will never be forgotten. The full impact that his work and his life has had on this community and the Children’s Miracle Network program could never be fully captured in these few words and will be felt for so many generations to come.
